Sauron without his ring of power would easily lose to Nightmare. With his ring, it's kinda tricky because Soul Edge is so goddamn powerful. But given how easy it was to sever Sauron's ring from his hand, I'd give the edge to Nightmare.

Both have a relic connected to their lifeforce. If said relic is destroyed, they're destroyed. That being said, Nightmare's relic can only be destroyed by it's alter ego, soul calibur, whilst Sauron's ring can only be destroyed at mount Doom. Since Sauron possesses no magc that can destroy soul edge, Nightmare would quickly dispatch him and take the ring. BUT, he wouldn't destroy it, being a greedy being who fests on souls, he'd wear it, growing in power, and eventually, with time, merging the two's souls into one greater power that will ultimately rule over a hopeless universe with an army of orcs and soul-craving monstrosities.

I'd have to side with Sauron in this fight. He's the original Overlord of Evil. And, having already been killed yet still lives, he's actually exists as an evil flaming spirit, so he would be more likely to absorb Soul Edge after allowing himself to be stabbed than actually be killed. Unless you hit and break his ring, and who says he even brings it into the fight with him, how exactly are you doing to kill the guy?

Aren't both immortal? Sauron's got an army, so there's that. My vote's on Sauron.
